My New York Make-Up Routine

As most of you know by now, I was in New York a few weeks ago (you must know – I haven’t stopped talking about it!) πŸ˜‰ You can read more about my trip and what we did there in this post.

New York is a magical city, so it’s only fitting that the make-up you wear there is magical too! I took bold steps in my make-up on my trip, as the sense of infinite possibilities that surrounded me flooded through to my make-up routine. Thinking about it now, the atmosphere and liveliness that was constantly roaring had a big impact on the way I took to my brushes. Yes, it may sound pretty strange to you. But there was seriously a lot of inspiration around me!

Most of the make-up I’m sharing in this post was purchased from Sephora in New York. (I didn’t waste any time with the make-up shopping!) Though there are a couple of products that made the journey with me, from home.

Every morning was like playing dress up for me. I always tell people that doing my make-up in the morning is one of my favourite things – it’s like a therapy for me. And it was no different in New York!

I kept my usual foundation: the L’OrΓ©al ‘Infallible 24 Hour’ in vanilla (120). I applied this over my Too Faced ‘Hangover’ primer, which I completely love! It was also a huge bonus because from early morning until late evening, we were out of our hotel room, so it was crucial to have something that held the make-up for that long.

This was my everyday routine, after cleansing my face with the Eucerin ‘Cleansing Milk’ and toning with an African Extracts Rooibos toner.

The Kat Von D ‘Tattoo’ liner was another purchase for me, and definitely helped create my bolder looks. I was absolutely loving the winged eyeliner look in the city. It made it so easy for me to do most days because it’s such an amazing liner. It’s very fine and precise, and it glides on beautifully. I’ve never used a better liquid eyeliner than this one!

I used my usual Anastasia Beverly Hills ‘Dipbrow Pomade’ in Medium Brown for my eyebrows, but I did add an Anastasia Beverly Hills ‘Brow Definer’ in soft brown. This pencil is angled, which I think is really cool. It glides on incredibly too – it kind of feels like a cream or a gel but in pencil form.. pretty intriguing πŸ˜‰

My cheeks were in the hands of a Too Faced blush called ‘Love Hangover’ (what’s with all the hangover’s?) This comes in the cutest heart-shaped compact and it is the prettiest shade of pink. Of course the pigment is buildable, but I love the fact that I can put a touch on my cheek, and I’ve got that sheer, rosy cheek look instantly!

Other products on my eyes were of course from Too Faced’s Sweet Peach palette. This is literal yummy goodness in a palette! It smells like you could eat it…

Apart from the mouth-watering inducing capabilities of this palette, it also has the most stunning eyeshadows. The colours are beautiful and really pigmented, and the variety is so great! The texture of the shadows is also something that excited me, as they are ridiculously smooth. It’s just glorious!

The mascara I used most days was also from Too Faced (noticing a trend?) ‘Better Than Sex’ is its name and it does indeed make your lashes look as cheeky as the name suggests! The packaging of this mascara however, is the best packaging I’ve ever seen. Something about the pink, metallic tube just gets me.

I changed up my normal, neutral lip make-up for a shade that I have always loved, but somehow I love even more now. The Nars Velvet Lip Glide in ‘Toy’ managed to deepen my love for deep reds. This stunning burgundy/purple colour is in the softest texture – it really is a ‘glide’ on feeling. It’s my perfect dark lip colour for the simple reasons of its colour (obviously) and the fact that it doesn’t dry out my lips. I love it so much and I wore it like crazy!

The Too Faced Melted Matte Liquid Lipstick was another purchase, but I didn’t wear it as much as the Nars lip product. Not because I don’t love it! Rather I was just feeling a lot of sass in this city (you can’t help it in New York) and neutrals weren’t doing it for me! πŸ˜‰ But on a serious note, this lipstick is a beautiful, pink/mauve shade. The name of it is ‘Queen B’ which is just even more amazing. Unfortunately it is quite drying because it’s very, very matte. But for such a pretty colour, you soldier through that dryness!

The Nars concealer I bought is the dreamiest, creamiest product I own now! It’s the Soft Matte Complete Concealer and I’ve got it in the shade ‘Chantilly’. This shade is pretty fair, making it a good eye brightener for my skin, but it also has a very good coverage. What more does one want?!

For my highlight and contour during my trip, I relied on my Anastasia Beverly Hills ‘Cream Contour Kit’, which is a product I reach for most days.

The last two products that I loved using are Becca Cosmetics bronzer in ‘Bali Sands’ and the Tarte Amazonian Clay Pressed Powder in ‘Light’.

Firstly, I don’t usually use a bronzer, but I thought I would start, for when I am not in the mood to contour and want something a little more subtle. This bronzer is perfect for just that. It’s obviously not insanely dark, but it’s the perfect sun-kissed shade that creates a beautiful warmth on a pale skin tone. Also, the packaging is just amazing!

The Tarte powder is wonderfully soft and doesn’t appear cakey on the skin. I use it under my eyes to set my concealer, and then wherever I may get a bit shiny through the day. It sets my make-up really well and it’s a product that I really look forward to applying!

That was pretty much my daily make-up go to’s in New York! And everyday I had so much fun using these products. Have you tried any of these or would like to? Let me know!
