JUNE!!! Is that you? I know I say this often, but man this year is going quickly! (I know you’re thinking it too) We are already six months in and the first half of 2018 has been nothing short of exciting. Though there have been many times where I’ve doubted myself, my abilities, and where I am. But I have made it this far, so I’m doing something right 😉 And as they say, if there were no bad days, we’d never be able to appreciate the good ones. So even through the not-so-great times, this year has proven to be quite the adventure, with mostly good opportunities and events. With that being said, here are 6 things that have happened so far, that I’m very thankful for!
January: Biscotti, the pup
If you follow me on Instagram there’s a very good chance that you would have seen my cute, fluffy Maltese, who goes by the name Biscotti! The story behind this little one is very special. I have wanted my very own puppy for the longest time – one that would follow me around, who I could take everywhere with me and who just needs a mommy! This is EXACTLY what Biscotti is. I got her on the 27th of January, after I arrived home from holiday, and my family had placed her in a basket with a little bow – I had no idea this was happening. It was the best surprise ever!! Seeing as my birthday was on the 31st of January, the timing couldn’t have been better. Since then, my Biscotti has filled my life with so much love, cuddles, funny howls, and endless cuteness. If you’re not a dog person, I’m sorry but we can’t be friends…
February: the month of love with my love
I’m a huge hopeless romantic. I’m always down for a cute fairytale and a happy ending. Basically, I love love! Yes, I’m that girl. So it’s only fitting that Valentines Day is a day I always look forward to. I know it’s a big commercialised holiday, but I still find joy in celebrating it.. This year, Pedro and I couldn’t do anything on the 14th because of tests and varsity life, which was of course disappointing, but not the end of the world. You know – life goes on 😉 But Pedro, being the most special person, still wanted to do something special for me as he knows how happy I get over stuff like this. When I got to his house the day after Valentines, he was waiting outside for me with my favourite white roses and my favourite chocolate, Marvelous Creations! It was the sweetest thing and just made me feel so special. YES for boyfriends who do random romantic acts that make their girlfriends so happy!
March: traveling to the seaside
Visiting the ocean is one of my favourite holidays. Getting away from the hustle and bustle of the city, and rendering all stress for a blissful week away, is something I always look forward to. My dad has recently moved to the seaside, which means visits to him equal tranquil days and complete rejuvenation. I’ve always been a city girl, it’s just what I prefer, but this makes these beach holidays even more precious. I really appreciate the salty air and sound of the ocean, and of course, time with my dad! I went during March and although I had a few varsity assignments to complete, I still felt so relaxed. You gotta love sea therapy!
April: entering the real world
The month of April was complete chaos, but in a good way. I started an internship at a digital marketing agency, as a digital coordinator. I won’t lie, the first week was a huge adjustment – I’ve never worked in corporate (I still find it funny that little old me had to attend meetings and make deadlines – I feel too young!) but I learnt so much in that first week and it was a huge personal achievement for me. All the events were happening in April, hence why it was so chaotic, but I made it to the end and did well throughout! I’m currently still doing my internship, but I can definitely say I’ve found my feet and have a lot more confidence in my abilities. It’s taught me to take deep breaths when things get overwhelming, to take things ONE DAY AT A TIME (what I struggle with most), and to not give up. Thanks for the lessons, April!
May: family time
May is the month of mothers, and of course, Mother’s Day. We had such a beautiful breakfast for Mother’s Day. It was so special because my gran came to spend the weekend with us, and we hadn’t seen her for quite a while. I loved being able to celebrate my own mama, as well as my grandmama! Our table had all sorts of yummy goodness: chocolate croissants, juicy fruit salad, eggs and bacon, all the best ciabatta bread, I don’t know if I’m forgetting anything, but as you can tell it was beyond delicious! I’m very grateful for the time I get to spend with family. May was also the month of my exams, but those weren’t anything special, so family time takes the cake!
June: what’s to come
The month has only just begun, so I don’t have anything to report on yet… But I am looking forward to a mixture of all the things I’ve just mentioned appearing this month. My exams are over (thankfully!) so I have a few weeks off, however I’m still working, and will be until August. I’m going to the seaside to visit my dad in the middle of June! That’s definitely needed and it’s going to be so great to be back at the sea. I’m watching my little Biscotti grow, and I swear she gets cuter each day. I reaaaallllyyyy want to take her with me when I visit my dad, so let’s hold thumbs for that. I’m also looking forward to doing some fun things with Pedro, as we’re both on holiday for a bit. He’s always ready to help me with things for my blog and I love him so much for that! But other than this, I’m open to whatever June brings my way. I’m positive it’s going to be a really good month, so all I can do is wait and see!
How have the first six (5 and a bit…) months of 2018 been for you?
