I am so excited to be back on the blog! Things have been so crazy lately with writing exams, however I only have one more and then I’m on holiday!
I specifically wanted to do this facial/skincare post now because my skin has been feeling so dry lately. No idea if it’s because the air has been so dry or because of the change of seasons – whatever it is, my skin hasn’t been enjoying it! And when my skin doesn’t feel good then neither do I… At all. I hope you enjoy this mini skincare affair 🙂
Starting off…
Once a week I spend a little extra time on my skincare routine – usually by doing some sort of mask and exfoliating. My everyday routine includes the usual cleansing, toning and moisturising. But I love a small pamper session every week, to help my skin to feel fresher and cleaner.
This always begins with me steaming my face. I usually just do this in the bath, by taking a warm facecloth and lying with it over my face for a few minutes. This really helps with opening up the pores, which is exactly what you want for exfoliation.
The mask…
Tonight I have used my Freeman Facial Clay Mask. It’s Chocolate and Strawberry, and I’m not even joking when I say it looks 100% like chocolate mousse and literally smells like it too. I wish there was a way to transfer the smell over this post, because it really smells so delicious! If you didn’t know it was a mask, you would easily mistake it for dessert!
Anyway, enough about chocolate. This mask is really soothing on the skin, and because it smells so good it isn’t a pain to keep on for about 15 minutes. I bought this one at Dischem, in a hopeful attempt to save my dry skin. It’s supposedly for moisture and hydration, which is exactly what I’m looking for, and so far my skin feels lovely and fresh.
Time to exfoliate…
After the mask has dried and I’ve rinsed it off, I exfoliate my face, ridding it of any dead skin and thoroughly cleaning my pores. I’ve been using this Yardley exfoliating scrub which is working quite nicely for me. It is soap free, which is something I like. I always prefer to use things without harsh chemicals inside, basically because I feel like my skin is very sensitive and I’d rather use natural ingredients anyway.
Toner it is…
From exfoliating I move onto toning my skin. This African Extract toner is so amazing. It’s called Rooibos, which automatically makes it sound soothing and calming – exactly like Rooibos tea does. It’s also a good one in my books because it’s alcohol free. I just put a few drops onto a cotton pad and apply that all over my face.
Toning is often left out of many people’s skincare routines, but it is an important part of achieving a beautiful, clear skin. Obviously everyone has their own preferences, but I love including toner into my routine, just because it gives one last extra touch before I apply my moisturiser. If you’ve never incorporated toning into your face washing routine, give it a try sometime – maybe you’ll love it as much as I do! Also, its job is in its name – TONER. It’s super helpful in toning the skin, creating a smooth and healthy appearance.
Finally, my good friend moisturiser…
I’ve recently had a lot of trouble with finding the right moisturiser for my drying skin. For a long time I’ve used Nivea, but I think that’s either too harsh for my skin or it just doesn’t get along with me. So I’ve moved over to this Matis moisturiser. I have used it a couple of times, but never for a long, consecutive period. I immediately liked the smell however and its density, and when applied to my face it created a really smooth and soft surface – which is pretty much all I want!
We’ll have to see if it keeps my skin happy and hydrated.
And that’s my skin routine that I try and do every week, at least once. It’s so important to look after your skin – especially if you love makeup, as a good makeup application depends on a smooth surface to work on 😉
I hope you’ve enjoyed this post! And let me know what your own routines are? What skincare masks or products do you use? It’s always good to hear what works for other people.
Have a good week and thanks for reading!
